1. Product Overview
The IONPURE IP-LXM55Z-5 is an LX-Z series continuous electrodeionization (CEDI) module designed for industrial deionized water applications. It combines ion exchange media, ion-selective membranes, and electrical regeneration to provide a continuous supply of high-purity water without routine acid or caustic regeneration.
With a design product flow of 9.0–10.0 m³/h per module, the IP-LXM55Z-5 supports applications such as power plant boiler makeup water, hydrocarbon processing, chemical processing, and other industrial high-purity water requirements.
The LX-Z series features improved chlorine tolerance and resin-filled concentrate compartments for performance and ease of operation.

Feed Water Requirements
| Parameter | Feed Water Specification |
|---|---|
| Feed Water Source | RO permeate |
| Feed Water Conductivity Equivalent — Including CO₂ and Silica | < 40 µS/cm |
| Total Hardness, as CaCO₃ | < 1.0 ppm |
| Total Chlorine, as Cl₂ | < 0.05 ppm |
| Silica, as SiO₂ | < 1.0 ppm |
| Iron, as Fe | < 0.01 ppm |
| Manganese, as Mn | < 0.01 ppm |
| Sulfide, as H₂S | < 0.01 ppm |
| Dissolved Organics — TOC, as C | < 0.5 ppm |
| pH | 4–11 |
Feed water conductivity equivalent
The operation manual defines feed water conductivity equivalent (FCE) as:
FCE (µS/cm) = Measured Conductivity (µS/cm) + 2.79 × CO₂ (ppm) + 2.04 × SiO₂ (ppm)
Measured conductivity alone is therefore insufficient to determine the total ionic load on the module.
Recovery Selection
The operation manual provides the following maximum allowable recovery conditions:
| Feed Hardness, as CaCO₃ | Feed Silica, as SiO₂ | Maximum Allowable Recovery |
|---|---|---|
| ≤ 0.2 ppm | ≤ 0.5 ppm | 95% |
| ≤ 1.0 ppm | ≤ 1.0 ppm | 90% |
Operating notes
Recovery selection must account for both hardness and silica concentrations.
A recovery of 95% may not be attainable at lower product flows because the minimum reject flow must be maintained.
During operation, maintain product outlet pressure approximately 0.1–0.3 bar (2–5 psi) above reject outlet pressure.
Use non-metallic piping adapters as specified in the installation manual.
Chemical regeneration is not required during normal operation; cleaning may still be needed if fouling occurs.
4. Key Features & Benefits
Continuous high-purity water production
Produces deionized water continuously without the regeneration downtime associated with conventional ion exchange systems.Industrial design flow
Provides a design product flow of 9.0–10.0 m³/h per module for industrial water treatment systems.Improved chlorine tolerance
