High-Capacity Ultrapure Water Production with Chemical-Free, Continuous Operation
The E-Cell™ EDI MK-9D Stack is a high-capacity electrodeionization solution engineered for industrial facilities that require a dependable, continuous supply of ultrapure water.
Designed for power generation, solar panel manufacturing, green hydrogen production, and other demanding industrial applications, the MK-9D uses electrical current to continuously regenerate ion exchange media. The result is consistent high-purity water without the operational burden of acid or caustic regeneration.
With a nominal flow rate of 16.0 m³/h (70.4 gpm) , the E-Cell™ EDI MK-9D helps operators achieve premium water quality, high recovery, and lower chemical-handling requirements in a compact, scalable system design.
High-Purity Water for Critical Industrial Processes
Water quality can directly affect product quality, equipment reliability, and operating costs. The E-Cell™ EDI MK-9D Stack is designed to produce ultrapure water that supports the most demanding industrial processes.
Product water performance
Product water resistivity of ≥16 MΩ·cm
Sodium concentration of ≤3 ppb
Silica levels as low as 5 ppb
Typical sodium removal of ≥99.9%
Typical silica removal of up to 99%
Water recovery of up to 97%
Actual performance depends on feedwater quality, system configuration, flow rate, temperature, and site operating conditions. Design-specific water-quality projections and guarantees are available through the Winflows® Design Simulator or a Veolia representative.
Built for High-Demand Applications
The E-Cell™ EDI MK-9D Stack provides a reliable ultrapure water supply for industrial operations where water purity and system availability are essential.

Chemical-Free Regeneration. Simplified Operation.
Unlike conventional mixed-bed ion exchange systems, the E-Cell™ EDI MK-9D Stack continuously regenerates its ion exchange media using electricity. This reduces reliance on hazardous regeneration chemicals while supporting stable, around-the-clock operation.
Key advantages
Continuous ultrapure water production without routine shutdowns for resin regeneration
No acid or caustic chemicals required for ion exchange resin regeneration
No brine injection required
No concentrate recirculation required
High recovery of up to 97% to help optimize water use
Low energy consumption paired with premium product water quality
Counter-current operation to help minimize cleaning needs at higher allowable feedwater hardness levels
Leak-free operation, backed by a standard 3-year prorated warranty
Compact, scalable design for integration into industrial RO-EDI water treatment systems

Designed for RO Permeate Feedwater
For reliable long-term performance, the E-Cell™ EDI MK-9D Stack is designed for reverse osmosis permeate or water of equivalent quality. Proper pretreatment helps protect the ion exchange media from particulates, colloidal matter, and organic contaminants.
Key feedwater guidelines
| Parameter | Maximum / Required Value |
|---|---|
| Total exchangeable anions, as CaCO₃ | ≤36 ppm |
| Conductivity equivalent | ≤62 μS/cm |
| Temperature | 4.4-40°C / 40-104°F |
| Total hardness, as CaCO₃ | ≤1.0 ppm* |
| Silica, as SiO₂ | ≤1.0 ppm** |
| Total organic carbon, as C | ≤0.5 ppm |
| Total chlorine | ≤0.05 ppm |
| Iron, manganese, and hydrogen sulfide | ≤0.01 ppm |
| Boron | ≤1.0 ppm*** |
| pH | 4-11 |
| Oil, grease, and oxidizing agents | None detectable |
| Particulate requirement | RO permeate |
| Color | ≤5 APHA |
* The 1.0 ppm hardness limit applies to standard counter-current operation. The allowable hardness limit is 0.1 ppm as CaCO₃ in co-current operation.
** The allowable silica limit may decrease above 10 m³/h and when feedwater hardness exceeds 0.5 ppm as CaCO₃.
** * For applications requiring a silica guarantee or resistivity above 10 MΩ·cm, the boron limit is 0.3 ppm as B.
Where an open tank, decarbonator, or other exposure point exists between the RO system and the EDI stack, install final filtration immediately upstream. A 5 μm absolute or 1 μm nominal filter is generally suitable.
